FINA 200 - Personal Finance

This course is designed to help individuals better manage their current and future financial affairs. The course introduces the terminology and basic concepts underlying personal financial management. It helps students set goals and develop skills to conduct basic research when making personal financial decisions. The topics covered include financial planning, money management, personal income taxes, costs of consumer credit, concepts of time value of money, investing in stocks, bonds and mutual funds, mortgages, and retirement planning.

Required Course Material Fee:

$56.6 CAD

Course material refers to all content that is needed to be licensed, acquired, or leased for the purpose of offering the online course.
This could include the electronic version of a textbook (or parts of it), images, articles, animations, audio, and/or video.
This material has been deemed essential for the course at the request of the instructor and/or content provider.
This fee is paid by students at the time of the retrieval of their eConcordia course and is in addition to the regular tuition that they pay to the university for the enrolment in the credit course.

Prerequisite

Notes:

  1. Students who have received credit for this topic under a COMM 499 number may not take this course for credit.
  2. Students enrolled in the BComm Major in Finance and Minor in Finance may not take this course for credit towards their major or minor. However, students may use this course for credits towards a business elective.

Notes:

  • The only text required for this course is available through eConcordia via the course website and is included in the online textbook fee. No other edition can be used as a substitute.
  • Students also require a financial calculator to complete the problems on the quizzes, cases and final exam. The calculator must not be programmable.
