FINA 200 - Personal Finance

This course is designed to help individuals better manage their current and future financial affairs. The course introduces the terminology and basic concepts underlying personal financial management. It helps students set goals and develop skills to conduct basic research when making personal financial decisions. The topics covered include financial planning, money management, personal income taxes, costs of consumer credit, concepts of time value of money, investing in stocks, bonds and mutual funds, mortgages, and retirement planning.

NOTE: Students from any Faculty may register for this course as an elective.

Prerequisite

Students who have received credit for this topic under a COMM 499 number may not take this course for credit.

Students may not use this course for credit towards the Major or Minor in Finance. However, students may use this course for credits towards a business elective.

The only text required for this course is available through eConcordia via the course website and is included in the online textbook fee.

Students also require a financial calculator to complete the problems on the quizzes, cases and final exam. The calculator must not be programmable.
