FINA 230 - Introduction to Financial Management

This course provides an overview of financial management.  It introduces some of the basic terms as well as the role that finance plays in the firm and markets today.  Specifically, this course will cover the following topics:  the role of the financial manager; the different types of business organizations; how the financial market works; accounting income versus cash flow; book value versus market value; financial ratio interpretation; time value of money; discounted cash flow analysis; how to value bonds and stocks; the basics of options; and making financial decisions.

  • Summer III (July 2 - August 12, 2024)
  • Fall (September 3 - December 2, 2024)
  • Winter (January 13 - April 12, 2025)

Prerequisite

1. JMSB students may not take this course for credit. 2. This course does not count towards the requirements for the Minor in Business Studies. 3. Students who have received credit for this topic under a COMM 299 number may not take this course for credit.

This textbook is only available online as an e-book through the course website.

Note: Students also require a non-programmable calculator.  A financial calculator such as the TI BA II Plus
